At last, the UK Government agree with us.
Fire Regulations should not discriminate.
Because neither does a Fire.

The Disability Discrimination Act (2004) makes it illegal to treat disabled people unfairly. Rightly so. So why are we even talking about an three year-old act?

Well, the European Union only really got around to enforcing this act in 2005, and the UK Government has been amending and expanding on it ever since.
It is now Law.

So what are your responsibilities?
Put simply, this act affects every building with public access and every single business. It is the responsibility of the business to get an audit carried out and follow any suggestion to the letter. The DDA can require ‘reasonable adjustments’ to the building, making sure stairs and walkways are accessible and well-lit for all occupants.

At a time when corporate manslaughter cases are becoming common, peace of mind is important.
But not as important as a life.
